The stick glow is a shiny stick that glows only in the dark. But how do stick glow? Read in the next.

The night is the best time to go to a club or have a party. Lately, the parties have been illuminated with a great invention: the glow sticks- which look great in the dark and may adorn your evening wear, your hair, your ankles or your arms. So, you have probably asked yourself the question how do sticks glow?

The glow sticks are considered a cool thing, which is very trendy in the clubs and at night time parties. But actually, the glow sticks were used for the very first time in the military with the purpose of giving light in the dark during the first gulf war in 1992. Ever since, the technology of the glow sticks has been imported in many fields. The glow sticks have many advantages: they do not heat up, they are non toxic and non- flammable. They may be used even under water for diving and other purposes, ad the glowy sticks are water proof.

But one question still stands: how do sticks glow? The glow sticks are made up by a plastic which shelters the inner tube- made of ultra thing glass- which is housing some chemical and fluorescent dye, which gives the glow sticks the different colors that we know. Between the plastic casing and the thing glass tube, there is another chemical. When bending the plastic, the thing glass ruptures, making the chemicals mix and resulting in glowing. The glow is a result of an oxidation reaction, which makes the fluorescent dye to give light. So, as you see, the answer to the question how do sticks glow is simple: it all boils down to a chemical reaction.

Unfortunately, the glowy part only lasts for a while, and after the party you will need to get yourself new glow sticks. However, if the glow sticks haven’t been entirely used, they may be placed in the freezer. The cool air will slow down the chemical reaction, making the glow stick last for longer. On the other hand, placing the glow sticks at warm temperatures or in warm water, the result will be in a more intense light, but it will last for less. So, you can play and experiment with these glow sticks as much as you like.

The glow sticks have many purposes nowadays, and are also used in contemporary art, making amazing shows that are supposed to be exposed in galleries in the dark.
